Before Your Session

Portrait Release Form

Be ahead of the curve…
Arrive 5-10 minutes before your appointment. This will give you time to settle in with baby and do any necessary maintenance before beginning.

Know Your Baby’s Schedule
As a rule, your little one will be more camera friendly in the morning. One fussy image is cute, lots of fussy images are not.

Babies-Dress for Success
We want your baby to be the focus of attention in his or her portrait and for that reason we discourage busy and uncomfortable clothing which will bunch up and distract from the portrait. We advise you to focus on diaper covers for infants and newborns. You can accessorize with hats, headbands, and ribbons and bows for the cuteness factor. A hat makes a wonderful frame for an adorable face and boys or girls.

Looking Thinner…
Everyone knows that immediately after giving birth, most moms are not feeling like they look their best yet. For our newborn sessions, we encourage the use of black long sleeves. This will enable us to capture you, dad and baby with minimal focus on you and maximum focus on your baby.

Lights, Camera, Action!
Makeup should be slightly heavier than normal. Also avoid makeup with an SPF in it. Although it is good for your skin in the sun, the SPF tends to create a shine. Summer shine can be controlled by using translucent powder that knocks out shine without adding additional color.

Maternity
For maternity pictures we suggest that you be photographed in your seventh or eighth month. Black is always flattering; it's warming and minimizes areas that you do not want to emphasize. If we are shooting images with dad too, jeans and white button-up shirts are a great look. Remember to schedule ahead. You should also schedule your newborn appointment at this time. We can always move these appointments if necessary!
