Before Your Session

Portrait Release Form

Be ahead of the curve…
Arrive 5-10 minutes before your appointment. This will allow for some relaxed settling in and chit chat and not rush you or the photographer.

It’s Supposed to be Fun!
A good expression on every face is the very heart of the family portrait. Organize everything the day before your session so that your family members do not feel rushed. The more organized you are the more relaxed everyone will be. If your son wants to bring his skateboard for a special shot, encourage him. If your daughter needs her teddy bear for comfort, be sure she has it. If your family has its best time dressed in denim for camping, wear blue jeans. Remember, it’s a family portrait so look like the great family you are!

Looking Thinner…
If you want to look slimmer, choose darker colors and longer sleeves.

Lights, Camera, Action!
Makeup should be slightly heavier than normal. Also avoid makeup with an SPF in it. Although it is good for your skin in the sun, the SPF tends to create a shine. Summer shine can be controlled by using translucent powder that knocks out shine without adding additional color.

Got Style!
We like to design family portraits with a coordinated color scheme. Keep this in mind when you choose your wardrobe. You do not have to be twins, but colors should complement each other. Begin by selecting a bottom, jeans with the same or similar wash, khakis or black pants…they do not need to be the same style, in fact it will be best if they are not. From there, build the wardrobe by selecting two complimentary colors and add a third for contrast if you choose. Avoid mixing prints, plaids, and polka dots and choose solid colors. Simple styles will contribute to the timeless quality of the portrait.
